Courses Designed for VFR Pilots:
(For each of the half-day courses, you’ll log at least 2 hours of simulator time)
A four-hour
course designed for pilots of all levels and abilities. Experience engine related failures, airframe failures, and system
failures in a realistic environment. What will you do when your engine quits, during flight, on landing, and even on takeoff?
Practice makes perfect, and you can practice all of these and more in the safety of Airworthy Pilot’s simulator. You
will first prepare for emergency situations by reviewing the steps you will take in the airplane, and then you will handle
the situations in ‘the air’. Be careful, we have a few tricks up our sleeve that will challenge anyone.
A four-hour
course designed to refresh you on the finer points of using the navigation equipment. You will be exposed to current navigation
technology as well as the old stand-bys. You’ll practice tracking using VORs, NDBs, and receive an overview of using
a GPS. If its been a while since you’ve used the navigation equipment in your airplane, now’s the time to refresh
those skills. In addition to practical tips, you’ll get plenty of practice navigating so that your next flight is about
getting somewhere, not searching.
Instruments for VFR pilots $395
A four-hour
course designed to provide VFR pilots with practical instrument flying skills. Ground subjects include weather, decision-making,
and other topics designed to prevent the inadvertent entrance to IMC. The simulator flight time will cover basic attitude
flying, unusual attitude recovery, and practice 180° turns. Also, use of instruments in night flying will be covered.
Flying with a GPS $395
A four-hour
course designed to introduce pilots to the functions, capabilities, and use of GPS navigation aids. This course will introduce
you to the most common in-plane GPS units, and will allow you to use the GPS in the air for navigation, finding the closest
airport or navigation aid, storing and flying a flight plan, and other functions available to the pilot while flying. If you’ve
never used a GPS in flight, this is the course for you. In the air is no place to be learning about a navigation aid.
Pinch-Hitter Course $395
This
half-day course is designed for the non-pilot frequent flyer. It will teach you all that you need to know to communicate,
fly, and land an airplane in an emergency. You’ll receive instruction in the necessary flight instruments and controls,
an introduction to the radios, and the frequencies to use to receive help. The flight instruction will focus on using the
flight controls to maintain straight and level flight, descent, and landing. You’ll also be introduced to the instruments
necessary for simple navigation,. As an added benefit, the knowledge and confidence you gain will make you a better passenger;
capable of helping with some of the many tasks the pilot must perform. On your next flight you’ll be part of the cockpit
crew!
